Brazilian Fashion Takes Centre Stage in Milan: Friend of the Earth Certified Brands on the Runway

From 22 to 24 September, Milan will host “Brazilian Sustainable Fashion in Milan, Craftsmanship and Culture: The New Luxury”, an event dedicated to Brazilian fashion, bringing together Friend of the Earth certified brands and brands currently undergoing Friend of the Earth certification in a celebration of craftsmanship, culture and a new vision of luxury.

The event will feature a fashion show on 22 September at I Chiostri di San Barnaba, followed by two days of showroom presentations on 23 and 24 September. The occasion is supported by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), through the TexBrasil program, led by the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit) with the support of the Brazilian Association of Sustainable Fashion (Abrimos).

Friend of the Earth Certified Brands

The ten brands taking part in the event share an approach to fashion that places craftsmanship, material research and traceability at the heart of their collections. Among them, the following brands are Friend of the Earth certified:

  • Alina Amaral presents AVESSO DO CÉU, a collection inspired by the Brazilian sertão and its landscape. Natural fabrics, traditional lace and embroidery transform earth, memory and imagination into material form.
  • Ana de Jour presents PÉTALAS, inspired by the lightness and delicacy of flowers. Organza and silk satin, layering and transparency create light, fluid silhouettes.
  • Camila Machado presents ALMAzônia, born from her experience in the Amazon rainforest and the meeting of fashion, nature and ancestral knowledge. Natural dyes, botanical prints and hand embroidery express this connection.
  • Celeste presents NÉCTAR, inspired by the meeting of flowers and hummingbirds and by the diversity of Brazil’s biomes. Crochet, embroidery and artisanal techniques celebrate craftsmanship and the uniqueness of each creation.
  • Ludimila Heringer presents MANIVA-BRASIL, inspired by mandioca-brava (bitter cassava) and the ancestral knowledge of Brazil’s indigenous peoples. Nature, culture and material come together in a contemporary vision rooted in the land.
  • Natural Cotton Color (NCC) presents PARAIBA BE-A-BÁ: WOMEN OF FIBRE, a tribute to the women of Paraíba. Naturally coloured cotton, natural dyes, embroidery and lace celebrate female strength and the heritage of the region.
  • Val Valadares presents AMAZÔNIA: FROM PAST TO FUTURE, tracing the history and transformations of the Amazon. Marajoara motifs, embroidery, textures and volumes reinterpret the region’s cultural memory.
  • Villa Dharma presents PATUÁ, inspired by the traditional Brazilian amulet and the country’s spiritual plurality. Natural fibres, embroidery, natural dyes and eco-printing bring together ancestral techniques and contemporary design.

Two brands currently undergoing Friend of the Earth certification will also take part:

  • Proposta Verde presents ENLAÇO, created by recovering around 200 kg of industrial textile surplus. Fluid silhouettes and artisanal techniques express an approach to fashion rooted in circularity and slow fashion.
  • Lybethras presents SOLEYA, bringing Brazilian craftsmanship to beachwear and resortwear. Crochet, macramé and embroidery are combined with innovative materials and practices focused on circularity.
