Nutrire una popolazione mondiale in crescita e allo stesso tempo proteggere il nostro ambiente è estremamente impegnativo.
L’agricoltura esercita una pressione significativa sulle risorse naturali e sul nostro ambiente e le pratiche agricole non sostenibili, che cercano il massimo rendimento con un minimo riguardo per le conseguenze ambientali e umane, possono portare alla distruzione dell’habitat, all’erosione del suolo e al degrado, tra le altre cose.
Friend of the Earth è uno schema di certificazione internazionale per l’agricoltura e l’allevamento sostenibile i cui principi si basano sulla salvaguardia e la protezione dell’intero ecosistema. L’agricoltura sostenibile è un tipo di agricoltura che si concentra sulla produzione di colture e bestiame a lungo termine senza compromettere la capacità delle generazioni attuali o future di soddisfare i loro bisogni, basandosi sul principio di mantenere un equilibrio sostenibile tra le richieste di produzione alimentare e la conservazione del nostro ambiente naturale.
