Among the Italian companies that are managing both the tradition and the ability to understand the changing views, Riso Gallo – one of the major global rice producer – represents a great excellence.
And so, this company born 160 years ago in Genoa, is today one of the most sensitive one about social and environmental sustainability.
Now, Riso Gallo has just added a new important step to this strategy with the launch of its first sustainable agriculture rice certified by Friend Of The Earth, the International Certification Standard for Sustainable Agriculture and Farming. The Standard has been developed on the basis of the Safa guidelines (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems) created by the FAO.
“Riso Gallo’s certification is very important for us – commented Paolo Bray, founder and director of Friend of the Earth, during the launch event – and we hope it will motivate other rice producers globally to implement sustainable agriculture practices”.
Two rice products obtained the Friend of the Earth sustainable agriculture certification: the rustic rice for “risotto” and the rustic rice for salads.
The packaging of the two Riso Gallo products can now display the Friend of the Earth seal of approval, which shows how its production has been carried out respecting the environment and workers’ rights, the territory and people.
